Terror On The Golf Cart
A Day In The Life...
Property tours can present opportunities for surprises—some good, some . . . not so much. Take for instance this story submitted by a leasing consultant in Dallas.
We had a married couple that split up and the husband moved out of their apartment. Not long after they separated, I was with a prospect on the golf cart, showing him an apartment not far from where the couple had once lived together.
I noticed up ahead of us, in the middle of the parking lot stood the husband, his wife and another man. From the look and sound of things, this was not a happy situation and certainly not something you’d want a potential new resident to witness.
Deafening Shots Fired
I was about to turn the golf cart around when I saw the husband fire several shots at the man next to his wife. The shots were deafening! The man who’d been shot dropped to the ground.
I went into shock and started screaming, “I’ve been shot! I’ve been shot!”
In my hysterical state, I frantically pumped the accelerator, thinking that I was reversing the direction of the cart, when actually my poor prospect and I were actually getting closer to the scene. The husband had dropped his weapon and was on his knees crying.
That was a really lucky day because, even though I lost my cool, my prospect remained remarkably calm. I was still screaming about being shot when he touched my arm. “You haven’t been shot” he assured me, then pointed to the guy on the ground. “That guy’s been shot.”
I settled down after that and we went over to the kneeling husband. The wife had called 9-1-1, and we could hear sirens howling in the distance.
We learned that the injured man was the wife’s new boyfriend. The jealous husband had acted in a fit of rage; and yet he waited, quietly weeping over what he’d done. The police arrived and arrested him. Fortunately, the boyfriend survived.
Not surprisingly, my prospect did not end up leasing with us that day!
